Social Cumulation

TJ and I installed our show at the Roswell Art Center West this past weekend. Titled 'Social Cumulation', we consider the role of social expectations in the presentation of ourselves and our collections. Above is a view of the rear gallery. TJ's drawings are sometimes preparatory to the work, and other times a reflection on it once it has been completed. I installed a wall of plates, elaborating on the surface of the wall with place mat silhouettes and a circular repeated pattern. The Crown jars are thrown and altered with lustered lids and details.

The sun was out today and it felt like spring. Community classes have begun so we are all busy teaching as well as feverishly making work for our exhibition. It falls earlier this year and will run from March 5 until May 1.

Let it Snow!

This was the view from the back porch of Pollard Saturday morning... what a treat to wake up to!

Holiday classes also went on all day. Visitors created felted ornaments, fused glass ornaments, ceramic face jars, enameled ornaments, band saw boxes, turned honey dippers and candle holders. The snow made it truly feel like the holidays had arrived, as well as having so many friendly faces on campus. Check out some of the other spots on campus:

Women in Wood

Autumn is here, and with it came the Women in Wood exhibition in the main gallery here at Arrowmont. A beautiful selection of contemporary woodwork from a large number of women woodworkers includes everything from turned forms, furniture, sculptural objects and wall pieces. It is truly an inspiring selection of work, curated by Karen Green. Her vision is amazing, and the exhibition's variety of color, texture and form provide a clear view of what local, national and international female woodworkers are up to in their studios. A real treat for the eyes!

Upfront

Congratulations to resident Martina Lantin. An image of her work was published in the October issue of Ceramics Monthly - it was an 'upfront' review of the MBK Graduate exhibition at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.

Uninvited Guests

While the guests we receive each day are uninvited, they are most interesting! Big or small, we are experiencing every aspect of life in the Smokies. It is unlike anywhere else! 

The insects, while huge and strangely unique, are miniscule compared to the threat of running into families of bear on the trails, or coming home to them after a good hike. Kent took these pictures from his bedroom window. We came home to a sow and two cubs... just hanging out in the front yard eating thistle seed and tearing things up.
